Imphal, Aug 11: Manipur Chief Minister N.Biren Singh on Saturday appealed to his Ministers and MLAs to share a meal with the inmates at different relief camps across the state by organizing a lunch for them on Independence Day.
Singh also asked elected representatives to talk with the inmates to address their problems and grievances.
The ongoing nearly 16 months crisis in Manipur has displaced 59,564 people after their houses were torched or vandalized.
As per a government report, 11,133 houses were gutted in fire in the violence and over 50,000 Internally Displaced People (IDPs) are currently taking shelter in around 320 relief camps across the state.
Tiranga Concerts
A Tiranga Concert was held in Imphal on Saturday. The musical and cultural event was held as a part of countrywide celebrations of Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign.
It was organised by Department of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur at Manipur State Film Development Society, Palace Compound, Imphal.
N Biren Singh also appealed to the people of the State to volunteer in cleaning the statues of the freedom fighters who had sacrificed their lives for the motherland and pay floral tribute for their sacrifices.
He continued that the “freedom and dignified life which we enjoy today are because of the selfless sacrifices made by our great leaders”.
The Chief Minister maintained that a sense of nationalism and patriotism has aroused amongst the people of the country, after Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister in 2014. He said initiatives like Har Ghar Tiranga campaign in the country have brought sense of nationalism, unity, and oneness among the people.
Singh instructed the Director General of Police for conducting a mass motor bike rally on the 15th of August, with mass participation from the youth.
He also appealed to the people of Manipur to participate in rally, street play, marathon, painting competition organised under the campaign.
