Manipur: COCOMI seeks action against ITLF’s demand for separate administration

Must read

Imphal, Nov 18: The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), an umbrella body of the Meitei community, has sought action against the organisations who have been demanding separate administration or self-government.

Recently, the Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF) has announced that they will set up their own self-governed separate administration in Manipur, which has been criticised by various sections of people.

Somorendro Thokchom, Media coordinator of COCOMI, alleged that the violence that erupted in Manipur on 3rd May, 2023 was engineered and pre-planned by Chin Kuki Narco terrorists and spearheaded by so called ITLF and Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU).

“Their long-nurtured dream of achieving a separate administration, Independent state or country had been shaping up in phase wise manner by earning huge profit from poppy cultivation and extortion on highways, looting and tax collection etc. Their call for establishment of self-government/ separate administration in Kuki-Zo dominated areas of Manipur will only worsen the prevailing volatile situation and thereby upset the peaceful co-existence of the Kuki-Zo people themselves and would hinder further settlement of Kukis in Manipur. It is a well-known fact to both the Centre and the State government that illegal immigrants are primarily responsible for the Manipur violence. Recently External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishanker had also stated in New York that large influx of immigrants led to the present crisis in Manipur,” COCOMI stated.

Ruling legislators in a meeting on Thursday condemned the statement of ITLF and sought appropriate legal action against the ITLF.
