Imphal, Jan 9: The Congress party in Manipur on Wednesday emphasized that genuine normalcy cannot return to the state until displaced individuals from violence-hit areas are allowed to safely return to their homes and villages.
A Congress delegation met Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, urging him to take decisive steps to restore peace and ensure the safety and rehabilitation of those affected.
“Normalcy would only return when thousands of people living in relief camps are able to safely return to their homes,” the party stated.
Veteran Congress leader and three-term Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, who led the delegation, stressed that the absence of violence alone can not be considered peace while thousands remain confined to relief camps.
The Governor reportedly expressed willingness to consider the party’s recommendations in resolving the state’s ongoing crisis.
The delegation included State Congress President Keisham Meghachandra Singh, Congress Legislature Party Deputy Leader Kangujam Ranjit Singh, Chief Whip Lokeshwar Singh, Congress Lok Sabha Member Bimol Akoijam, and MLA Surjakumar Okram.
