Manipur: Curfew relaxation indefinitely lifted from border town of Moreh

Imphal, Oct 11: The Manipur government has imposed an curfew in the border town of Moreh and also issued an order against the encroachment of properties of displaced people after alleged attempts in the town to level structures used by Meitei residents.

Tengnoupal district magistrate lifted curfew relaxations indefinitely from Moreh town with immediate effect from Monday citing “likelihood of gathering of public.”

The order stated that for the rest of the district, the existing curfew relaxation from 6 am-5 pm will remain in place.

On Tuesday, the state home department issued an order reiterating an order issued by the Supreme Court on September 25 regarding encroachment of properties.

An order issued by the Home Department, Government of Manipur states that the apex court also directed the state government to ensure the protection of the properties of the displaced persons as well as the properties which have been destroyed/burnt in the violence and prevent encroachment.

In case any property has been encroached, the encroachers are to be directed to remove the encroachment, failing which the person concerned would be liable for contempt of court for non-compliance with the order of the Supreme Court of India.
