Imphal, Jan 11: The situation in Manipur refuses to return to normal as the bodies of four people, who had been missing since Wednesday, were recovered on Thursday.
The four are suspected to have been killed by suspected militants.
Police sources confirmed that their bodies were recovered on Thursday.
The incident took place on the border of Churachandpur-Bishnupur District.
It is believed that the villagers had gone to collect fire wood in the area. Inadvertently, they may have crossed the buffer zone, which led to the tragedy, police sources said.
Mentionably, ethnic tensions continue to run high ever since violence erupted in the state on May 3, 2023, following a rally by the tribals over an order by Manipur HC allowing the Meitei community to apply for ST status. Since then, the state has been divided on ethnic lines with the hills dwelling Kuki-Zo tribals receding back to the hills from the Imphal valley and Meitei dominated areas, and the Meiteis taking shelter in Imphal valley from tribal dominated areas. Close to 200 people have so far been killed in the conflict and over 60,000 displaced.
