Imphal, Dec 8: The students of Bachelor of Pharmacies from Polytechnic, Kangleipak Medical and Nursing Institute Saraswati Institute and Management Paramedical and Medical Sciences from Imphal who have been displaced from Imphal since May 3,2023 staged a protest on Friday at the gate of the Deputy Commissioner, Churachandpur, demanding online classes for them from the concerned authorities.
Martin Khualthianson, a student, stated it is the duty of the concern authorities to make arrangement for online classes as they are currently displaced, but no such arrangements have been made, depriving them of the crucial education while their classmates are taking regular classes in Imphal.
He said they have been deprived of their educational rights and the facilities they rightfully deserve and demanded for the arrangement of online classes at Lamka Medical College, otherwise, they will be lagging behind all their class fellows.
He went on to state that education is not related to issues and other political demands, and they should not be used as scapegoats.
Later, a memorandum for the Chief Secretary, Government of Manipur, and the President Pharmacy Council of India was submitted through the Assistant Commissioner to Deputy Commissioner, Churachandpur, Chaitania asking for making arrangements for separate online classes at Lamka Medical College.
In the memorandum, which was also signed by the Convenor of the Joint Student Body ( JSB), the students stated that upon the outbreak of violence in Imphal on the night of 3rd May 2023, a total of 35 students of Zomi-Kuki undergoing a Pharmacist course ( 2 Year) from Government Polytechnic, Manipur, Kangleipak Medical and Nursing Institute Saraswati Institute, and Management and Paramedical Sciences took refuge in different Central Armed Forces Camps.
As the situation deteriorated, they were evacuated to their respective home district(s) and with continuation of the violence for over months, they could not return and physical attendance back to Imphal was impossible and the matter has been apprised to the Director, Lamka/ Churachandpur Medical College, asking for continuation of regular classes online and examination be held in Churachandpur.
