Manipur: Eight militants arrested in connection with abduction, extortion cases

Imphal, Jan 16: Security forces in Manipur have arrested six suspected members of the Arambai Tenggol group and two active cadres of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Progressive Wing Group) in separate operations.

The six individuals linked to Arambai Tenggol were identified as Sagolsem Chingkheinganba Singh (25), Chingakham Sanatomba Singh (19), Sapam Somorjit Singh (32), Maibam Bokenjit Singh (24), Athokpam Jiban Singh (30), and Chingakham Mani Singh (41).

According to police, these suspects were involved in the abduction of Md. Nawash (33) from his residence in Heingang, Thoubal District, on January 14. Tragically, Nawash was brought dead to Thoubal District Hospital the following day.

In a separate incident, two active members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Progressive Wing Group) were apprehended from Uripok Mayai Leikai, Imphal West District, on Wednesday night. The arrested individuals were identified as Khangembam Sanaton Singh (51) and Thokchom Tiken Singh (43).

Police stated that the KCP (PWG) members were involved in extortion activities targeting shops and showrooms across Imphal. Items recovered during the operation included four mobile phones, four SIM cards, a side bag, two wallets, two Aadhaar cards, a four-wheeler, and Rs. 5,140 in cash.

Authorities continue to investigate these cases, highlighting the ongoing efforts to address militant activities in the region.
