Imphal, June 14: Army Sources on Wednesday said that at least nine people, including a woman, have been killed after fresh violence erupted in Manipur in the past 24 hours. Nine people died during firing incidents late night in Khamenlok area.
Those injured in the violence have been rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Sources also said those killed in fresh violence in the state have cut marks on their bodies, including multiple bullet injuries.
Shivkanta Singh, SP Imphal East said postmortem procedure of those killed in the violence is underway.
The reports of fresh violence in the state comes as a major setback for the people of the state and government amid efforts to restore peace in the state.
Tension in Manipur started on May 3 due to ethnic clashes between the Meitei and Kuki communities.
The reports of fresh violence occured at Khamenlok, it is located near the border of Kangpokpi and Imphal’s east districts.
In the past couple of days, several people lost their lives and thousands of people are taking shelters in camps.
