Around 50,000 people have been displaced due to the ongoing violence in the state, of which over 12000 people are taking shelter in Mizoram alone, around 6000 in Assam and the rest in other states.

According to government sources, around 5000 houses have been fully or partially damaged.

Ethnic riots between the valley dwelling Meitei community and hills majority Kuki-Zo community began in Manipur on May 3, 2023, after a tribal solidarity march against the Meitei’s demand to be included in the ST (Scheduled Tribe) list. The violence has continued relentlessly over 80 days, now.
