Imphal, Dec 4: The Manipur High Court has constituted a committee to investigate the sudden disappearance of Laishram Kamal Babu, a Meitei man missing since November 25.
A two-judge bench comprising Justices D. Krishnakumar and Golmei Gaiphulshillu heard the petition filed by Kamal Babu’s brother on Tuesday. The Court directed the committee to determine whether Babu was kidnapped from an Army camp or fled voluntarily.
“The District Magistrate, as the head of the committee, shall issue a notice to the petitioner or the petitioner’s family members to appear for the inquiry. The committee is expected to submit its findings to the Court by December 11,” stated the High Court.
The initial hearing on November 27 led to notices being issued to all concerned parties. According to the petitioner, Kamal Babu was abducted by Kuki militants from the high-security Leimakhong Army campus.
In response, over 2,000 troops are engaged in the search. The Manipur Police, supported by the Indian Army, has been conducting massive joint operations since November 25. “The Indian Army has deployed over 2,000 troops, helicopters, drones, and tracker dogs. Technical intelligence is also being utilized to trace Laishram Kamal Babu Singh,” stated the Manipur Police.
The next hearing is scheduled for December 11.
