Imphal, July 21: The Manipur government has taken a decisive action by organising protest demonstration across all assembly constituencies in the state against the distressing viral video showing the brutal torture and public humiliation of two women by an unruly mob.
Talking to media persons on Friday, CM N. Biren Singh emphasized the government’s seriousness in addressing the dishonouring of women’s modesty depicted in the video.
“Elected representatives, including MLAs and Ministers, joined forces to educate the masses about the importance of respecting the dignity and modesty of women and stood against all forms of violence and sexual assault,” he said.
He also made a strong statement, asserting that such acts of brutality will not be tolerated, and those involved will face justice.
Women participating in the protest at Heingang Assembly constituency urged the government to swiftly punish the culprits responsible for the torture and harassment of the two victims.
During the demonstrations, placards denouncing demands for separate administration by the Kuki community were also prominently displayed.
Protests were not limited to Heingang Assembly constituency alone; they echoed across all valley districts including Moirang, Bishnupur, Thanga, Singjamei, Keirao, Konthoujam, Khurai, Lamsang, and Thongju Assembly constituencies, where citizens voiced their demand for justice and an end to violence against women.
Meanwhile, the state government has issued an appeal to the general public and media houses to refrain from sharing or spreading any information, rumours, or comments related to the incident through social media or any other medium.
