Imphal, Jan 3: A live hand grenade was discovered on Thursday outside the rented residence of Laishram Kamalbabu Singh, a supervisor for a contractor at a military station in Manipur, who has been missing for over 40 days.
Police recovered a note alongside the grenade, though its contents were not immediately disclosed.
“The grenade was found at the gate of Singh’s house in Loitang Khunou, Imphal West district. A police team promptly retrieved the explosive, and experts successfully defused it,” a police official stated.
Singh, a native of Gossaipur in Cachar district, Assam, stayed in Loitang Khunou while working at the Leimakhong military station. He went missing on November 25 after leaving for work.
The Joint Action Committee (JAC), along with various organizations, including Meira Paibis—Manipur’s women vigilantes—has been staging protests, demanding Singh’s rescue.
The Manipur government handed over the case to the CBI last week, while state police continue parallel search operations to locate him.
