Manipur: MBBS students stage protest after debarred from appearing first year exam, submits memo to DC

Imphal, Nov 21: The phase- I MBBS students with 27 displaced and another 6 non displaced students’ of the Churachandpur Medical College (CMC) protested as they are debarred from appearing their first year examination which commenced from Tuesday.

The students took a rally from Tuibong Bazar to the DC office and held sit in dharna at the DC office gate. Later, they submitted a memorandum to the additional DC.

North East Student Organisation

The North East Student Organisation (NESO) coordinator Ejan Lotha while talking the student assured that the organisation will take their issue seriously and try to solve their grievances so that their grievances are sorted out.

In the memorandum addressed to the governor of Manipur Annusuiya Uikey and submitted through the additional DC Churachandpur Thangboi Gangte it stated that the 27 MBBS displaced tribal students have filled up their examination forms, admit cards and deposit their examination fees besides submitting copies for payment of fees through the deputy commissioner (DC) Churachandpur.

The memorandum stated that 27 MBBS students with two BDS thus preparing to write the university examination scheduled on 14/11/2023 and 21/11/2023 respectively.

However in the last minute of 13/11/2023 they were debarred from taking their BDS examination and again MBBS examination which is schedule to be held from today.

It further said they were informed that their admit cards and other examination materials were sent only to 6 (six) MBBS students and rest of the displaced students’ were excluded .

“The students feel hurt because their fellow displaced students from Churachandpur Medical College were allowed to continue their studies at JNIMS centre uninterrupted but no such arrangement were made it went on to say. The students stated they somehow joined their fellow CMC students with in their classes with the hope of writing University examination together with them which was verbally assured by the Chief Secretary and the DC Churachandpur it noted,” the memorandum stated.
