Imphal, Nov 26: Rajya Sabha MP from Manipur, Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba, has strongly criticized his Mizoram counterpart, K. Vanlalvena, for suggesting a “separate administrative area” for the Kuki-Zo tribal communities to resolve Manipur’s ethnic conflict.
Leishemba, a BJP leader, cautioned Vanlalvena against “crossing the line” and interfering in Manipur’s internal matters. Taking to social media platform X, he wrote:
“My friend, don’t cross the line. Please confine yourself to your state’s issues. Stop interfering in Manipur’s affairs. Be a good neighbor.”
My friend,
Don’t cross the line..

Vanlalvena, a member of the BJP ally Mizo National Front (MNF), had earlier proposed imposing President’s Rule in Manipur as an immediate step to address the ongoing violence. He suggested that this would enable the Centre to demarcate areas for Meitei and tribal communities, paving the way for a “separate administrative arrangement” for the Kuki-Zo-Hmar tribal groups.
Leishemba’s sharp rebuttal underscores the sensitivities surrounding Manipur’s ethnic tensions, with leaders from neighboring states weighing in on the contentious issue, sparking heated exchanges.
