Manipur: NIA arrested key accused in Manipur violence conspiracy case from Imphal Airport

Imphal, June 6: In a significant development, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested a key accused at Imphal Airport who was involved in insurgents and terrorist groups aiming to escalate violence in Manipur.

The accused has been identified as Thongminthang Haokip alias Thangboi Haokip alias Roger. He is a member of the Kuki National Front-Military Council (KNF-MC).

According to an official of NIA, Roger was apprehended under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in case registered suo motu by the NIA on July 19 last year.

“Roger was found to have been actively involved in attacks on security forces at multiple locations during the insurgency and violence. He was also in contact with the insurgent group Kuki National Front-Burma (KNF-B) in Myanmar, seeking logistics support to escalate the volatile situation in Manipur and instil fear among the populace,” the NIA statement said.

NIA investigations further revealed that Roger had meetings with leaders of PDF/KNF-B (Myanmar) to procure arms, ammunition, and explosives for use in the ongoing violence in Manipur.
