Imphal, Dec 17: The Naga Peoples’ Union, Imphal (NPUI) on Sunday condemned the kidnapping of four Naga girls from Manipur’s Chandel district.
According to reports, the four Naga girls were kidnapped from a beauty parlour in Imphal.
“We the Naga Peoples’ Union Imphal has learnt and reported to us by the victims that some armed miscreants had forcibly kidnapped four Naga Girls who are from Chandel working in a beauty parlour in Imphal, two Anal girls, one Lamkang girl and another one Aimol girl, demanded money which is around Rs. 3/4 lakhs from a Beauty Parlour belongs to one Anal Naga Tribe Lady located at Khongnang Ani Karak near India Bazaar, Imphal on 12 Dec 2023,” the NPUI stated in press release.
It said the incident was occurred at around 12 noon on the said day wherein the proprietor and the three girls were picked up from their Beauty Parlour by 10-12 armed personnel. They were taken towards Sowambung and Sekta area hill side and asked to pay a ransom of Rs 3 – 4 lakhs. Later, when some of their local friends intervened and spoke to some elders and leaders of the area, they four Naga Girls were released at around 6 pm from Sekta.
“One of the victims who is said to be Aimol girl was physically assaulted and beaten up black and blue where she is now undergoing medical treatment. Even after they were released, the said armed personnel keep calling them over phone especially to the proprietor of the Parlour to arrange the said amount within 2/3 days, and if not given then they will come to their Parlour and kill them. So, their Parlour had been closed for fear of the life threatened and apprehension,” NPUI said.
In a similar incident took place on the same fateful day of December 12, 2023, at around 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm, seven Tangkhul Naga girls, Marin, Mao and Kabui were kidnapped by some unknown armed miscreant. They were also abducted from a Beauty Parlour at Chingmeirong near Vishal Mall, Imphal. They were also taken towards the jungle of Sekta in Imphal East District and were physically assaulted. The assault of the proprietor and manager was particularly severe as they were hit with gun butts, sticks, kicks and even stamping upon. The miscreant also asked them to pay Rs. 5 lakhs, of which Rs 2 lakh as been paid, NPUI informed.
“We the Naga Peoples’ Union strongly condemn the criminal activities and ransom carried out upon our innocent Naga girls who are running a Beauty Parlour. And also such similar incident is happening in Imphal city to many Beauty Parlours run by Nagas Ladies (they) are threatened for ransom and some were forced to paid the amounts they demands in some thousands upto lakhs of rupees so far,” they said.
It further added, “We the NPUI humbly appeal to those armed miscreants to kindly stop harassing our Nagas Girls who are running Beauty Parlours in Imphal and in the valley areas too, to avoid creating up of any kinds of misunderstanding between Nagas and Non-Naga communities in Imphal and Manipur,” NPUI further said.
