Imphal, Nov 3: A Manipur Police constable in Jiribam district shot and killed his senior colleague, a Sub-Inspector, on Saturday following a verbal dispute, officials reported.
The exact cause of the argument remains under investigation.
Other officers on the scene promptly arrested the constable.
According to a police official in Imphal, the shooting took place at the Mongbung village police post, a location under heightened security due to ongoing regional violence.
Preliminary reports indicate that constable Bikramjit Singh allegedly fired his service rifle at close range, fatally wounding Sub-Inspector Shah Jahan. The two had reportedly argued earlier that day.
The specific motives and circumstances leading to the incident are still unclear, as authorities work to uncover the details behind the fatal encounter.
Jiribam, a district bordering southern Assam and home to a diverse population, has experienced several violent incidents this year.
