Imphal, Jan 24: Security forces in Manipur apprehended three active members of proscribed militant groups involved in extortion activities ahead of Republic Day celebrations.
Two of the cadres, identified as Thokchom Luxmikanta Singh alias Hapu (28) and Dinesh Thokchom alias Don (23), belonged to the banned outfit KCP(PWG). They were arrested in the Uningkhong area under Khongjom Police Station in Thoubal district while engaging in extortion.
During the operation, authorities seized two 9mm pistols with magazines, five live rounds, three mobile handsets, cash amounting to Rs 10,000, and a four-wheeler vehicle.
In a separate operation on Wednesday, the Manipur Police arrested an active KYKL cadre, identified as Maibam Bronson Singh alias Thambou alias Ngamba (24), from the Langol Type III area under Lamphel Police Station in Imphal West District. He was reportedly extorting money from the general public and shop owners.
