Manipur: Security forces discovers 10 militants’ bunkers in Kangpokpi district, 1100 looted arms recovered

Imphal, June 26: Security forces have discovered ten bunkers of militants in Kangpokpi district and so far recovered 1,100 looted arms and 13,702 pieces of various ammunition.

According to reports, the arms and ammunitions were looted by the militants, miscreants and the mobs after the ethnic violence broke out in the state on May 3.

The Manipur government handed over the June 21 explosion case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the interest of national security.

“Three people were injured in the blasts of the IED (Improvised Explosive Device), which was fitted inside a Mahindra Scorpio vehicle, parked over a bridge located at the adjoining area of Phougakchao and Kwakta along Tiddim Road in Bishnupur district,” said an official.

Various reports said that the militants, miscreants and the mobs have looted and snatched a few thousands sophisticated arms and lakhs of ammunition from different police stations and security posts during the devastating ethnic violence.

Curfew was relaxed for 12 to 15 hours in five valley districts, Pherzawl and Jiribam districts, eight to ten hours in Tengnoupal, Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts.

There is no curfew in the remaining six hill districts, mostly dominated by the Nagas.
