Imphal, June 6: The security forces and mobs destroyed camps of Kuki militants after sporadic incidents of violence were reported from different parts of violence-hit Manipur, officials said on Monday.
According to police, an abandoned camp of United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF) was set on fire by the angry villagers on Sunday night at Sugnu in Kakching district.
The Kuki militants had burnt down a large numbers of abandoned houses, including the house of former minister and Congress MLA K. Ranjit at Serou in Kakching on Saturday midnight.
While on the other hand, the combined security forces demolished the base camp of the UKLF at Nazareth at the adjoining areas of Chandel and Kakching districts on Sunday night.
Also, a heavy exchange of fire took place between the security forces and UKLF cadres before the destruction of the base camp.
The security force was although able to flush out the suspected Kuki militants from the camp, while the extremists managed to escape during the gun battle.
Meanwhile, a search operation is underway in the mountainous areas of violence-hit state by the security force.
The UKLF cadres have been using the strategically important camp before they move to their intended destinations on operational missions.
