Manipur: Slow loris rescued, handed over to forest dept

Imphal, March 29: A female slow loris (Nycticebus bengalensis), commonly known as Bengal slow loris or northern slow loris, was rescued from Saiton River bank in Manipur’s Bishnupur district.

The animal was rescued by renowned environmental activist Anish Ahamad from Kwakta.

He later handed over the animal to the state forest department staff under the Divisional Forest Office Bisnupur, Range forest Office Moirang.

All species of slow lorises are currently listed as either “Vulnerable” or “Endangered” on the International Union for Conservation of Nature IUCN Red List, with some species facing higher risk of extinction.

Anish Ahamad has rescued many wildlife species in past decades and saved more than 35 numbers of wildlife and handed them over to the forest department.

Ahamad has received many state wildlife awards for his contribution to wildlife.
