Imphal, July 30: A soldier from the Territorial Army (TA) on Tuesday averted a major disaster with his swift response in Noney district of Manipur.
A goods train, comprising 21 wagons carrying rice was on its way to Khongsang station in the Noney district of Manipur. However, due to excessive rainfall in the morning, the crushed stones that support the tracks were washed away, between T-14 P2 and T-15 P1.
This damage posed a significant risk to track stability and alignment. However, an alert soldier of TA patrolling along Jiribam to Khongsang railway line spotted the damage and promptly alerted authorities.
The railway authorities were immediately informed and the incoming goods train was stopped at Kambiron by the Army personnel. This prevented a potential accident, army authorities informed.
The TA is deployed along this stretch of the railway line to provide security for the under-construction mega railway project linking Jiribam to Imphal.
