Manipur Tops MSME Registration in Northeast: CM N. Biren Singh

Must read

Imphal, Jan 17: Manipur has emerged as the leader in Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) registrations among northeastern states, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh announced, citing data from the Ministry of MSME.

During a state-level workshop on UNNATI (Uttar Poorva Transformative Industrialization Scheme) and RAMP (Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance), Singh revealed that Manipur recorded 12,438 MSME businesses between 2015 and 2019, the highest in the region. Notably, 50% of these businesses are owned by women, showcasing the entrepreneurial spirit of the state’s population.

“Manipur’s share in the national population is 0.2%, yet its contribution to MSME businesses stands at 0.3%,” Singh noted, attributing the state’s growth to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of the Northeast as the “Growth Engine of New India.”

Highlighting initiatives launched since the BJP-led state government assumed office in 2017, Singh mentioned the ‘One Family One Livelihood’ mission, which provides collateral-free loans of up to ₹10 lakh, with 30% offered as a grant.

Singh also urged the youth to take advantage of government schemes to create employment opportunities. Under the Manipur State Credit Guarantee Scheme, 2,575 entrepreneurs have already benefited, with ₹200 crore utilized out of the ₹700 crore allocated for the initiative.

The workshop was organized by the state’s Department of Trade, Commerce, and Industries to drive further industrial growth and support MSME development in the region.
