Imphal, June 16: The property of Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Education RK Ranjan Singh was set on fire by miscreants in the Kongba- Nandeibam Leikai region of Imphal East on Thursday evening. This incident took place just days after the residence of Minister Nemcha Kipgen in Imphal was set ablaze on Wednesday.
According to reports, the incident is said to have occurred at around 11:00 p.m. on Thursday night, after a huge mob of miscreants stormed R K Ranjan Singh’s residential gate.
Police officials said that the attack was carried out by around 1200 men and women.
Following the incident, Ranjan Singh’s house was burned partially and the improvised construction was destroyed.
The situation was brought under control by the security guards and firefighters and most parts of the minister’s house was saved from being burnt down.
To disperse the group, Imphal East police used tear gas shells as it began gathering near RK Ranjan Singh’s residence.
When the incident occurred, R K Ranjan Singh and his family were not present at their resident.
The incident was reported after two more houses belonging to locals were burned and clashes between the Rapid Action Force of Manipur and a mob in the heart of Imphal town on Thursday afternoon.
On May 25, Singh’s house was targeted after thousands of people tried to gather in front of the residence of the Central Minister in Imphal but was prevented from doing so by the security forces.
Police also said that the mob, comprising of men and women, demanded an early solution to the conflict between the Meitei and Kuki communities.
The mob also accused all the MLAs and ministers of the state that they are not much to end the Manipur crisis
R K Ranjan Singh, who is also the Minister of state for Education, is now in Delhi.
