GUWAHATI, April 25: Meitei Muslims of Manipur, known as the Pangal community, observed a silent protest on Friday by wearing black ribbons during jummah namaz in mosques across the state. The gesture was a mark of grief and condemnation following the recent terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir.
The protest was led by the United Meitei-Pangal Committee (UMPC), which issued a strong statement denouncing the attack. “The UMPC, Manipur expresses its deepest sorrow and strongest condemnation of the heinous attack on innocent tourists in Pahalgam,” said Raees Ahamed Tampak, UMPC’s general secretary.

Describing the violence as “cowardly and senseless,” Tampak said, “The victims, who had simply ventured out in the spirit of tourism, peace, and discovery, did not deserve such cruelty. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and stand in solidarity with the survivors and the people of Jammu & Kashmir during this tragic moment.”
UMPC members wore black ribbons as a public expression of mourning and resistance to terrorism. “Let this be a symbol of our collective grief, unity, and firm stand against terror and violence in any form,” Tampak added.
In their statement, the UMPC called on both the Central and state governments to take swift and decisive action. “We urge the authorities to ensure that those responsible are punished strictly, irrespective of caste, creed, religion, or nationality. Terrorism has no place in a civilized society,” said Tampak.

The organization also prayed for the strength of the victims’ families and the speedy recovery of those injured. “Justice must be delivered swiftly and fairly,” the statement emphasized.
Reaffirming their commitment to national unity, Tampak concluded, “UMPC Manipur continues to advocate for peace, justice, and unity across all communities and regions. We renew our call for collective efforts to uphold the values of compassion and brotherhood.”
