Guwahati, May 29: Massive erosion has been witnessed in Karimganj after water level of singla and Longai river has risen heavily after incessant rain in Mizoram.
“Around 30 meters of the embankment was washed away due to the rising water level of Longai river in Changjurirpar village of Baraigram area of Karimganj district. In Bilbari village of Patharkandi assembly constituency, embankment was washed away by the rising waters of the Longai river. A government school was washed away ,” said a local resident.
He said that many villages were inundated in Ratabari assembly constituency by floodwaters of the Singla river.
“The erosion started from Tuesday evening at around 5 pm and till today, around 60 meters of land was washed away in the river. The district administration has not taken any step to control the erosion,” he said.
