Auto rickshaw overturns in Bilasipara, kills one, 10 injured

Guwahati, May 29: In a tragic incident a school student was killed and ten others injured after their auto rickshaw met with an accident due to Remal storm at Bilasipara in Assam’s Dhubri district on Wednesday morning.

The deceased student has been identified as Subhankar Barman, class I student of Shankardev Sishu and Vidya Niketan, Bilasipara.


The tragic incident took place when Subhankar along with ten other students were on their way to school.

“Due to heavy storm caused by the Remal, auto rickshaw carrying students suddenly overturned on the road. A student of class I killed on the spot while ten other were injured,” said a police official.

He said the injured students were undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bongaigaon.

Subhankar’s mother Deepti Barman was also injured due in the accident and is undergoing treatment a private hospital.


“When we have heard about the accident, our Pradhan Achariya and some teacher rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation. One of our student Subhankar Barman died on the spot due” said a teacher of Shankardev Sishu and Vidya Niketan.

Meanwhile, an alert has been given across the state for Remal but the Dhubri district administration and the sub-divisional administration of Bilasipara have declared schools closed.
