Shillong, Dec 27: A social media influencer with over 1.5 million followers has drawn widespread condemnation after posting a video mocking Christians by chanting “Jai Shree Ram” inside the Epiphany Church in Mawlynnong, Meghalaya.
The influencer, goes by the name ‘Akash Sagar’ with over 1.5 million followers has sparked outrage among the Christian community in the state after he posted this video on his Instagram account.
The incident, which has been labeled as deeply disrespectful, has led to significant backlash online and offline. The video has garnered over 939,000 views, with the comment section flooded with messages condemning his actions.
Social activist from Shillong, Angela Rangad has filed an FIR against Akash Sagar, citing the act as an affront to religious sentiments. Rangad called for strict action, stating, “This act was deliberately done to create communal disharmony, insulting the minority culture and to establish a majoritarian culture of hate in violation of all constitutional rights of religious freedom”, wrote Rangad in her FIR which was filed at Laitumkhrah Police Station.
Local Christian groups and citizens have also voiced their concerns, urging authorities to take swift action to prevent such incidents from recurring.
Also, the Central Puja Committee (CPC) of Meghalaya condemns the activity of this individual and urges the district administration to investigate the matter and initiate immediate action as per law and take stringent exemplary action against the offender.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
