Shillong, Jan 21: The people of Mawkhar on Friday, together with the rest of the State, celebrated Meghalaya’s Golden Jubilee in the community hall at Mawkhar.
Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong graced the ceremony as the chief guest in the presence of the Assistant Rangbah Shnong Ransom Sutnga and the Rangbah Dong of Mawkhar.Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy CM said Mawkhar was the starting point for the fight for attaining a full-fledged State from erstwhile Assam. Houses were converted into Meghalaya Office, he added.
Balloons with signboard of the Meghalaya Day engraving were flown in order to mark the historic day.
Excellence Award was awarded to Aenam Jyrwa, a resident of Mawkhar, who has represented the Country and the State in different football campaigns and Freddy Syiem who has contributed in the field of Karate.
