Shillong, Feb 18: A delegation of traditional heads in Mawryngkneng area along with Sohryngkham MDC Pyniaid Syiem met Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to apprise him of the need to upgrade the Mawryngkneng Public Health Center (PHC) to a Community Health Center (CHC).
Syiem said that the CM informed them that the foundation stone of the CHC will be laid in the first or second week of March.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the Synjuk, Peter Lawai said that there was an assurance from the health department that the upgradation will be done by December 2020 but it has materialised till date.
He said that the upgradation of the PHC to CHC is necessitated as it is located along the National Highway and it can cater to travellers.
The population of all the villages under the six dorbar shnong is 20,000-30,000 while it will be 50,000-60,000 with regard to PHC’s population coverage.
Lawai said that Mawryngkneng dispensary was established in 1965 and upgraded to PHC in 1985.
“It has been an aspiration of the people and the traditional heads to have the PHC upgraded for the people to avail better medical facilities. Apart from the upgradation of posts, the CM said that different posts will be sanctioned in the CHC”, Lawai said.
Six sordar shnongs belong to Mawryngkneng, Puriang, Kut, Thangshalai, Ksehpyndeng and Pommura.
