Shillong, May 7: A delegation of traditional heads led by NPP MDC from Mawsynram Alvin Sawkmie on Wednesday met the chief minister Conrad K Sangma and requested his intervention for upgradation of Mawsynram community & rural development block to a civil sub-division and construction of the road from Weiloi to Balat.
Speaking to reporters, Sawkmie said that the two issues have been lying pending for many years.
“I am happy to inform you that the chief minister has given us a positive response and hopefully under his leadership Mawsynram will get this new road from Weiloi to Balat and Mawsynram block be upgraded to a new civil sub-division,” he added.

He underscored that people will to a great extent be benefited if the government considers the creation of a new civil sub-division because as of today, people have to travel from interior parts of Mawsynram to Shillong for very basic issues and this has affected them very much in terms of time, money and energy.
Further, the MDC said the delegation has been informed that the detailed project report (DPR) for construction of the road from Weiloi to Balat is being prepared and the government has assured to sanction necessary funds from the World Bank.
