Shillong, June 5: The Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA) has announced that it will provide a scholarship for Everbloom Nongrum, a young boy from Mawryngkneng who had received the Jeevan Raksha Padak Award from the President of India for fearlessly risking his life to save two of his friends on two separate occasions.
The young lad plays his cricket for East Khasi Hills Cricket Association.
In July 2019, a boy fell into a hole that had been left uncovered at a construction site but Everbloom was on hand to jump into the hole and save the other’s life.
Then, in July of the following year, Everbloom once again saved another boy who slipped into the same hole. He was then bestowed with the Jeevan Raksha Padak Award in November 2020.
The announcement of the MCA scholarship was made during the final of the East Khasi Hills Cricket Association’s District League T20 Tournament, which was held in Mawryngkneng on Saturday. MCA Honorary Secretary Gideon Kharkongor and MCA Honorary Treasurer Dhrubajyoti Thakuria were present on the occasion.
