Meghalaya Assembly Elections 2023: KAM fields domestic workers’ rights activist Wanpynhun Kharsyntiew from East Shillong

Shillong, Aug 31: KAM, a democratic platform in Meghalaya, has announced the candidature of Wanpynhun Kharsyntiew from 16-East Shillong constituency for the upcoming 2023 Assembly Elections.

Kharsyntiew is a resident of Malki and has been at the forefront fighting for the rights of domestic workers.

Kharsyntiew has been involved in a social movement working with grassroot level people called the domestic workers for the past 18 years.

She stated that it’s been 50 years of statehood but the Government of Meghalaya has yet to come up with a law in favour of the unorganized sector workers, in favor of the laborers.

Angela Rangad, one of the candidates from KAM, said they will fight money power with their ideas.

“Nothing is impossible. If people understand that together, we can defeat the powers of corruption and criminality,” she said.

She added that they will not buy votes because a person’s vote is priceless.
