Meghalaya braces for thunderstorms, heavy rainfall in next 3 hours

Shillong, Sept 20 : The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an urgent advisory warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and moderate rainfall across several districts in Meghalaya.

The affected regions include East Jaintia Hills, East Khasi Hills, South Garo Hills, South West Khasi Hills, West Garo Hills, and West Jaintia Hills.

The advisory, released in collaboration with the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Shillong, indicates that these weather conditions are expected to occur within the next three hours.

Citizens residing in the mentioned areas are urged to exercise caution and stay alert for potential hazards linked to the incoming storm.

The NDMA has advised people to stay indoors, avoid open spaces, and unplug electrical appliances during thunderstorms to prevent accidents. The authorities are closely monitoring the situation and will provide further updates as necessary.
