Meghalaya: BSF apprehends 5 Bangladeshis, 5 Indians trying to illegaly cross International border

Shillong, June 28: The Border Security Forces (BSF) on Tuesday apprehended five Bangladeshis and five Indians, including the driver of the vehicle in which they were travelling together on Dawki-Amlarem highway.

They were arrested in Meghalaya’s West Jaintia Hills district, said officials on Tuesday.

The arrest was made after BSF acting on a tip-off.

BSF Official said that the Bangladeshi nationals had illegally crossed the border and entered Meghalaya’s West Jaintia Hills district.

During the preliminary investigation, the Bangladeshi nationals revealed that they had crossed over to India to settle down permanently, added BSF official.

After the arrest, the apprehended persons were handed over to police with seized items.

So far, the BSF has apprehended 26 Bangladeshis since January, 2023.
