“The second decision was to institute and constitute guidelines for the Art and Heritage Award,” Sangma announced after a cabinet meeting on Wednesday. Proposed by the Art and Culture Department, the awards will honor individuals excelling in performing arts, folk music, folk dance, folk drama, theater craftsmanship, and other cultural domains.

Sangma elaborated that the awards will acknowledge the contributions of renowned exponents, practitioners, domain experts, and living legends. A dedicated committee, headed by the Chief Secretary and members of the Art and Culture Department, will oversee the selection process, which will involve both nominations and applications.
