Shillong, Dec 19: The Meghalaya Cabinet passed an ordinance on Tuesday to put in place the UGC norms, which will be applicable in the Captain Williamson Sangma State University Act.
The state government has expanded the scope of Williamson Sangma State Technical University and made it a full-fledged state university now.
The amendment was being done to incorporate certain UGC norms that are there, and hence that amendment was cleared in terms of an ordinance today to put in the UGC norms, informed Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K. Sangma.
Some of the norms included, like the Board of Governors and the actual structure of the Board of Governors as prescribed by the UGC, will have to be incorporated. Another was the Board of Management, as prescribed by the UGC norms, that will be incorporated in this. Other small changes that are there, which are required as per the UGC rules and regulations, will also be incorporated, but the major changes are the Board of Governors and the Board of Management.
The chief minister also informed that the setting up of the campus has already started, and their intention is to begin classes next academic year.
