Shillong, Nov 27: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma today emphasized strategic planning, collaboration, and youth-driven energy as essential to achieving sustainable development in the state during the 3rd Standard Development Goal (SDG) Conference.
Held under the Indo-German Technical Cooperation framework, the event highlighted Meghalaya’s progress and future trajectory in localizing SDGs, with key partners such as the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).
The conference, designed to bolster Meghalaya’s SDG localization efforts, highlighted the state’s collaboration with GIZ under the Green and Sustainable Development Partnership (GSDP).
Meghalaya now joins Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh as pioneers in this initiative. GIZ, with over 60 years of experience in India, brings expertise in areas such as environmental management, sustainable urban development, energy, and social sector growth.
NITI Aayog’s support, particularly in health and nutrition, has been instrumental in Meghalaya’s upward performance trajectory. Recognizing the state’s potential to set national benchmarks, NITI Aayog sees Meghalaya’s development as a model for other regions.
Chief Minister Sangma underlined the importance of having a clear mission and cohesive strategy, stating, “Without a goal, there is no mission or objective. A clear sense of purpose is the beginning for any organization, team, or government to move forward.” He stressed the importance of data-driven governance and asked stakeholders to focus on the “DELTA”—the net average growth rate—rather than static comparisons with other states.
Sangma pointed to the government’s Cabinet Retreats as a platform for enhancing departmental synergy and re-aligning objectives through open dialogue among ministers and officials.
He emphasized a feedback-driven approach to governance, encouraging direct public engagement to ensure policies resonate at the grassroots level.
He reiterated the critical role of partnerships and data in building public confidence and improving governance efficiency. “It is our intention to ignite minds and create passion across all levels of government, ensuring that every individual feels purpose-driven,” Sangma stated, affirming the government’s commitment to evolving and adapting its goals for the state’s forward momentum.
