Meghalaya Chief Electoral Office introduces Form 12D for upcoming bye-polls

Shillong, Oct 19: Electioneering for the bye-polls to three assembly constituencies in Meghalaya is gaining steam as the state has introduced form 12D in the upcoming Maryngkneng, Mawphlang, and Rajabala bye-polls in a bid to make the electoral process convenient for the senior citizens, Covid-19 patients, and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Meghalaya, Frederick Kharkongor informed that 300 12D applications have been received so far from all three constituencies, of which 132 are from Maryngkneng, 144 from Mawphlang, and 54 from Rajabala.

Form 12D are postal ballots meant for senior citizens over the age of 80 years, and the above mentioned categories of people, that will allow them to vote from the convenience of their homes, rather than casting their votes physically, informed the CEO.

The three constituencies will have a total of 168 polling stations. Of the 168 polling booths in the three constituencies, 47 have been identified as vulnerable polling stations. Also, all the 168 booths will have a Covid Nodal Officer to ensure Covid SOPs are strictly adhered to.

It may be noted that the Meghalaya Assembly Bye-elections for three constituencies namely Rajabala, Mawphlang, and Mawryngkneng are slated for October 30 and counting will be done on November 2.
