NE regional forces need to come together to assert themselves before Delhi: Sangeeta Barooah

Itanagar, Oct 19: National Affairs Editor of The Wire, Sangeeta Barooah has advocated for regional voices from Northeast to join forces or come together in order to voice common issues and agenda of the region before Delhi. She is of the opinion that Delhi clubs Northeast as one region, however, the issues and concerns of the region are multifold, thus, a single unified voice will have lot more weight and authority compared to fragmented voices.

Speaking at the Regional Conclave on the theme “Regional Aspiration, National Outlook” organised by the Arunachal unit of National People’s Party (NPP) on Tuesday, Barooah said, “Regional voices from Northeast should come together and make strong assertion before Delhi.”

She said that big parties tries to push forward their agenda in Northeast and always try to lure the people, however, it is important that regional parties and people from region should not fall trap to their amusements.

Importance of regional parties

General Secretary of Assam Jatibadi Parisad, Lurin Jyoti Gogoi spoke on the importance of regional parties. “Attraction of regional ideologies is growing day by day in the country,” he said while pointing on policies from bigger parties like BJP, who try to impose on the citizens of the region.

He said that CAA was forcefully imposed on the people of Northeast, when issue of influx was a major problem for the region.

He asserted that regional political sentiment is of prime importance to push common agenda of the region. He advocated that regional forces should work together to propagate inclusivity of region and fight against wrong agenda of bigger political parties, trying to hit out at BJP on CAA.

Gogoi said also lauded Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma for standing with the people of Northeast when issue like CAA was forced on the region. “Conrad Sangma ji is not just a politician but a true leader of Northeast because he stood for our people,” he said.

Regionalism a basic instinct of human being

Gogoi also stated that people of Assam decided to start a regional political due to large scale influx in Assam, adding “regionalism is a basic instinct of human being”.
“Because we love our country, we love our people, we love our culture or language, and wanted to protect our identity and protecting our language, therefore these are our primary objectives of any regional political party therefore regionalism is the secret instinct of all human being in all over the world,” he said.
