Shillong, July 5: In a major step towards enhancing employability among Meghalaya’s youth, the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS) has empanelled 119 Local Training Providers (LTPs) under the revamped Chief Minister’s Skills Mission.
Representing 86 institutes, these LTPs will collectively train over 23,000 young individuals across key growth sectors such as agriculture, tourism, textiles, and construction.
The announcement was made during the valedictory function of a four-day state-level workshop held at the Institute of Hotel Management, Mawdiangdiang.
Speaking at the event, Principal Secretary of Labour, Employment & Skill Development, Challienkhum Songate described the LTPs as “changemakers of society,” urging them to align their training modules with the state’s economic goals for 2025–26.
MSSDS Executive Director Jagdish Chelani, along with senior officials and stakeholders, participated in the closing ceremony. As part of the proceedings, 17 training providers received empanelment certificates and MoUs, while 65 were issued formal work orders to commence training activities under the restructured mission.
The updated CM Skills Mission emphasizes outcome-based skilling, enhanced national competitiveness, and sustainable economic development. It aims to elevate training standards, expand accessibility, and strengthen linkages between institutions and industry to ensure lasting impact.
The workshop also featured sector-specific sessions and panel discussions that explored strategies for local livelihood development and global employment opportunities. Interactive Q&A sessions encouraged collaboration and helped identify skill gaps at the grassroots level.
