Shillong, Aug 30: Leader of Meghalaya Ex-Service League (MESL), comprising of retired soldiers of the Army, Navy and Air Force on Wednesday visited their old ailing members.
This visit was part of the regular yeoman service of the organization to lend them their moral support. The visit was led by General Secretary of MESL, Buam Myrchiang along with Lt. Colonel (Retired) Sebastian Marbaniang, Ex NK Jedro Thabah and Ex L/NK Grantis Basaiawmoit, Ex NK Signals visited Sarshon Lyngdoh who participated in the in the Indo-China War in 1962 and also in the Indo-Pakistan War in 1965. Sarshon Lyngdoh also participated in the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. The retired soldier is still keeping good health even after attaining 94 years of age.
This group also visited Ex NK, ARC, Lot Singh Wahlang, who participated in Indo-Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. He is now 80 years old.
The group also paid a visit to Ex Rvts Indian Navy, Galvest Reenbohn who has attained 90 years of age.
Before this, the group visited Ex NK, Signals, Drowell Nongspung, who has attained 93 years of age.
The group also visited Pritina Wahlang, the mother of Ex Sepoy, (Late) Paul Walter Wahlang, who was killed by the terrorists of Kashmir in 2002.
The visit to retired soldiers had begun in June 2024.
According to General Secretary of MESL, Buam Myrchiang, the purpose of this visit is to encourage these retired soldiers who have made tremendous sacrifices to serve the nation, even losing their lives. He also informed that the organization is helping the retired personnel in scrutinizing of their documents so that they may smoothly get the benefits of pension and additional pension after attaining 80 years of age and other benefits under the One Rank One Pension Yojana.
He also said the organization is involved in helping their colleagues, but particularly for the family members of the retired personnel.
Marchiang said the organization is involved in scrutinizing of the documents of the wife and children of the retired personnel, so that they are in place and all the benefit due to them are received hassle free.
Further, Myrchiang said the leaders and members of the Meghalaya Ex-Service League pay their last respect and condolences to the bereaved family members of departed retired soldiers.
