Meghalaya Games 2024| Swimming| Banpynshngain Syngwan sweeps 4 golds as EKH claim 25 medals on Day 1

Tura, Jan 16: The 5th edition of Meghalaya Games 2024 witnessed East Khasi Hills dominating the swimming competition at Rongkhon Swimming Pool, in Tura on Tuesday. East Khasi Hills (EKH) secured a total of 25 medals on the opening day of the competition, claiming the top position on the Swimming medals tally. The male and female swimmers from East Khasi Hills collectively earned 9 golds, 6 silvers, and 10 bronze medals.

Following closely in second place was South West Khasi Hills (SWKH) with a total of 4 medals, including one gold and three silvers.

The competitions on Day-1 included Men’s Freestyle 100m, Women’s Freestyle 100m, Men’s Breaststroke 100m, Women’s Breaststroke 100m, Backstroke 100m for both Men and Women, Freestyle relay for both Men and Women, and lastly, the Mixed Freestyle Relay.

Among the winners, Banpynshngain Syngwan swam away with as many as four gold medals in different categories of swimming, including the 100 meters freestyle.

The winners of each competition from Day 1 are detailed below:

In the Men’s Freestyle 100m, Banpynshgain Syngwan secured the first position, followed by Mebankitboklang Banai in second and Rangkynsai Myrthong in third, all representing EKH district.

The Women’s Freestyle 100m showcased exceptional performances, with Ilarisuk Youroi claiming the first position. Pdiangsuklang Syngwan secured second place, and Tvisha Jalewa earned the third spot, all from EKH district.

The Men’s Breaststroke 100m witnessed outstanding feats, with Cleric J. Wanniang from EKH securing the first position, followed by Cleverson Mynthlu from East Jaintia Hills (EJH) in second and Elberz W Kharbani from EKH in third.

In the Women’s Breaststroke 100m, Ilarisuk Youroi clinched the first position, Sumarbaing Mawlong secured second, and Balahun Syngwan earned the third spot, all representing EKH district.

The Men’s Backstroke 100m saw Pynkhlainbor Wanniang from South West Khasi Hills District (SWKHD) claiming the first position, followed by Lastborn Shine Kharlyngdoh from SWKHD in second and Shaun Diengdoh from EKH in third.

For the Women’s Backstroke 100m, Pdiangsuklang Syngwan secured the first position, Gail D. Syiem earned the second spot, and UTMY Syngwan took the third position, all from EKH district.

In the women’s butterfly stroke 100m, Sa-I-banbet Wanniang from EKH secured the first position, Baiahunlang Thongni from SWKHD came in second and Pdiangsuklang Syngwan from EKH secured the third position.

The Men’s Freestyle Relay witnessed a fierce competition, with EKH – Team A securing the first position, followed by SWKHD – Team II in second and EKH – Team B in third.

In the Women’s Freestyle Relay, EKH – Team B emerged victorious, with EKH – Team A in second place and EKH – Team C in third.

In the Mixed Freestyle Relay EKH-Team A secured the first position, followed by EKH-Team B in second and EKH – Team E in third.
