Tura, Jan 11: While the Meghalaya Games 2024 got off to an exciting start with the U-18 Boys’ football competition in Tura on Thursday, the event organisers finalised all the formalities and checks for the girls’ football competition, which will start on Friday.
The screening process for the U-18 girls’ football teams was held at the GBHSS Artificial Football Ground at Chandmari in Tura, on Thursday, setting the stage for an intense competition in the 5th Meghalaya Games.
All players representing 10 teams, each representing a district, underwent scrutiny to ensure compliance with the stringent rules and regulations set forth by the Meghalaya Football Association (MFA).
The participating districts include West Garo Hills, South West Garo Hills, East Garo Hills, South West Khasi Hills, East Jaintia Hills, West Jaintia Hills, Eastern West Khasi Hills, Ri Bhoi, West Khasi Hills, and East Khasi Hills. Notably, South Garo Hills and North Garo Hills are the only district without a girls’ team in the competition.
The primary objective of the screening process was to assess the eligibility of players based on the established criteria, ensuring fair play and adherence to regulations. One crucial mandate of the Meghalaya Football Association is that participants, both boys and girls, must be born on or after January 31, 2006. To substantiate their eligibility, players were required to present proof of their date of birth, such as Aadhar cards, along with their birth certificates for cross-verification.
