Meghalaya govt and Centre closely monitoring Bangladeshi UAV activity along Indo-Bangla border

Must read

Shillong, Dec 17: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong on Monday said the Centre and state government are closely monitoring the situation following the recent spotting of the Bangladeshi Bayraktar TB2 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) along the Indo-Bangla border in Meghalaya.

Meghalaya shares a 443 km border with neighbouring Bangladesh. However, the UAVs were recently spotted close to Sohra and Shella in East Khasi Hills district, about 200 meters south of the zero line on the international border.

Speaking to media persons, Tynsong said, “We (state government) are keeping the government of India informed (on this matter) and the government of India is also taking serious note on this. Similarly, as the state government, we are also doing our job.”

“Action will be taken accordingly. As I said, jointly the state government and the central government are (seeing the situation) very closely. Please don’t worry. Everything will be fine,” he assured.

The deputy chief minister also added, “It is also equally the duty of the central government to take it up with the government of Bangladesh.”

When asked, Tynsong said he has already instructed the chief secretary and director general of police (DGP) to take necessary steps on the matter.

Refusing to divulge more details on the matter, he said, “See there are issues, which I don’t want to be the narrative. So please understand that the issue is so sensitive so I cannot share everything with all of you. So what I have said is that from the state government our responsibility is to ensure that this kind of thing does not happen anymore.”

Further, the deputy CM said that the government is having a review meeting on the matter on a regular basis.

“Review is always held but we don’t want to just share with all of you about the review meeting as far as law and order is concerned. We also need to keep it a secret where we don’t want to narrate so much on this,” he added.
