Shillong, Dec 19: Meghalaya cabinet has decided to relax the age limit for the overage candidates for the Department of Textile to appear for the exams.
Chief minister Conrad K Sangma explained that since 2015, there has not been any appointment or any kind of examination held for the textile department. Even so, there were many people who were supported in terms of a stipend by the government of Meghalaya.
Therefore, we have decided to hold examinations and through this, the candidates who had gone to the institutes can apply and based on the selection process, appointments will be given. However against the 196 passed out trainees, there were 115 who are overaged and hence, as a…

“And after clearing those different programs, those particular candidates who cleared those particular courses, their appointments were due. They were asking for direct appointments to be made, which again, required some detailed assessment to be made and in the process from 2015 none of the individuals were appointed and no recruitment process also took place because of certain clarity that was required at that point in time. Hence, this issue has been pending for a very long time,” explained Sangma.
Since there are 196 employees who have been working since 2015 but about 115, will not be able to appear for the exams because they would be overage and hence, as a one-time measure, the government has decided to relax the age limit.
