Shillong, Nov 2: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Transport Sniawbhalang Dhar on Tuesday said the department has requested the Public Works Department to speed up the construction of the alternative road so that big buses can use the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Mawlai Mawiong.
“We have requested the PWD to complete the alternative road at the earliest possible. They have informed us that they are aiming to complete the road within one year’s time,” Dhar said.
He said hopefully when this road is completed big buses can come and resume their business at the ISBT.
The road will start from Umroi airport and end at Mawlai bypass. “Therefore, big buses can come direct to the ISBT from Mawlai bypass,” Dhar said.
He said that at present, the load restriction imposed for vehicles plying through the Umiam bridge has affected bus operators and also the shop owners at the ISBT.
