Meghalaya Govt urges HNLC to reconsider withdrawal from peace talks

Shillong, Jan 5: After the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) withdrew from the peace talks, the government of Meghalaya has appealed to the Council to reconsider and urging the HNLC not to withdraw from the ongoing tripartite peace talks.

Govt Spokesperson and Cabinet Minister, Paul Lyngdoh, disclosed that despite no official communication, the government is actively addressing the situation.

“We have only seen the reports in the media; officially, they have not been communicated. First, I would appeal to the HNLC not to pull out of the peace talks because a lot of ground has been covered initially with hope that both sides will prevail,” he said.

Lyngdoh highlighted the urgency of the matter, revealing plans for an emergency meeting once Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong return to town.

Emphasising a commitment to addressing concerns, he assured that the HNLC’s demand for amnesty is under serious consideration and is likely to be granted.
