Meghalaya: NGO’s file petition to abolish illegal installation of sawmill under IFA

Tura, June 20: The United NGOs of Tikrikilla, NGCO, NPPE, CEPARD, FAF and ACHIK filed a petition to abolish the illegal installation of sawmill in the region.

The petition has been filed under section of The Indian Forest act 1972 (IFA ) chapters sec 41.

According to the NGO leaders, the persons who have installed illegal sawmills were identified as Satter at Balbalgre, Sumir the elder brother of Sattar at Tillapara, Rohit Rabha at Hatigaon, Gias at Mothapara, Mohibur at Jugirjhar, Sukar Ali at Rongsai and Kalu at Rongsai.

These people have installed illegal sawmills which has caused destruction to natural forest and environment. Therefore, the United NGOs of Tikrikilla filed a petition under section The Indian Forest act 1972 (IFA ) chapters sec 41.

This comes a day after a raid was led by the state forest team of the territorial range along with CEPARD, NGCO, AAPE, ACHIK and FAF, which worked together on the matter.

On Monday, Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) of Tikrikilla region and Range Forest officials of Hollaidanga in West Garo Hills (WGH) helped to seize an illegal sawmill in the plain belt region.

Earlier, the NGOs had also pointed to more than 10 such illegally operating saw mills in the Hollaidanga area, under Tikrikilla police station.
