Meghalaya police cautions against protests over COVID lockdown, vaccination drive

Must read

Shillong, May 25: Meghalaya Police are looking with concern at some of the groups trying to incite dissent among the residents of the state over the prolonged COVID-19 related lockdown and vaccination drive by calling for protest or march. As a warning against any kind of rally or mass gathering to express such dissent in the current vulnerable times wherein the positive cases in the state have seen a meteoric rise, police on Tuesday summoned some group members of the social media group ‘Keinnoh Ynnai Long Mraw’ and warned of legal action over their post on calling for a protest march on June 1, 2021.

East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Sylvester Nongtnger informed that ‘Keinnoh Ynnai Long Mraw’ posted on a social media post on Tuesday calling for people to come out in large numbers on 1st June, 2021 at Jaiaw Student’s field and march to the Meghalaya Secretariat to protest against the Covid-19 lockdown and vaccination measures by the government.

Fowling this, he said District Police identified the Admin and members of this group whereby “some of whom have been summoned to the Police Station on the matter and warned of legal action if corrective steps are not taken”.

The District police chief has urged the people of the state to act responsibly in these times of crisis in the interest of all and not to subscribe to such mindless requests, as such acts, will only invite legal action.
